As with most Westward beaches, Ma'ili is known for it surfing during the winter surf season


MAKAHA BEACH PARK

(Leeward Oahu)

A mecca for board surfers. Site of international competitions. Waves up to 25 feet in winter. Swimming, snorkeling in summer only. Scuba divers frequent the "Makaha Caves" - a spectacular series of underwater arches and caverns.


Nanakuli Beach Park

Nanakuli beach is one of the best scuba diving spots on Oahu.


POKAI BAY BEACH PARK
85-037 Waianae Valley Road, Waianae
(Leeward Oahu)

The safest swimming beach on the leeward coast. Picnicking.


YOKOHAMA BAY BEACH PARK
End of Farrington Highway. Last sandy stretch of shore on Northwestern Oahu
(Leeward Oahu)
 
Secluded, white sand beach. Board surfing spot for experts only. Hike to Kaena Point, Oahu's westernmost tip (2.7 miles/90 minutes one-way). Note: You cannot drive around Kaena Point.
 

 NORTHERN SHORES

EHUKAI BEACH PARK
59-337 Ke Nui Road, Pupukea
(North Shore Oahu)

Best view of the famous "Banzai Pipeline" - board surfers disappear inside the wave and emerge seconds later.


Haleiwa Beach Park

Home of great surf during the winter months, and calm surf during the rest of the year.


MOKULEIA BEACH PARK
68-919 Kaena Point Road, Mokuleia
(North Shore Oahu)

Deserted windsurfing beach for experts. Picnicking, camping. Hike to Kaena Point begins 2.9 miles beyond the park (2.5 miles/2 hours one-way).


PUPUKEA BEACH PARK
59-727 Kamehameha Highway, Pupukea
(North Shore Oahu)

Cove and tidal pools in a marine reserve - one of the most beautiful sections of shoreline on Oahu. Scuba and snorkeling at Shark's Cove during summer months when seas are calm. Extremely dangerous in winter.


SUNSET BEACH PARK

(North Shore Oahu)

Famous site of professional board surfing contests. Winter surf reaches heights of 20 feet. Picnicking.


Turtle Bay

Home of the famous Turtle Bay Hilton Resort.


WAIMEA BAY BEACH PARK

(North Shore Oahu)

Heart of board surfers' paradise - 30 foot waves not uncommon during winter months. Picnicking. Swimming in summer only.


 EASTERN SHORES

Bellows Beach

Located on Bellows Air Force Station (a military base), is only open on the weekends.


KAHANA BAY STATE RECREATION AREA

Swimming all year in a crescent shaped bay. Great for beachcombing; view of Huilua Fishpond.


KAILUA BEACH PARK
526 Kawailoa Road, Kailua
(Windward Oahu)

"The" windsurfing site on Oahu - white sand beach with good swimming and gentle surf all year. Picnicking.


KUALOA REGIONAL PARK
49-479 Kamehameha Highway, Kaneohe
(Windward Oahu)

Spectacular view of Koolau Mountains and Mokolii Island (nicknamed "Chinaman's Hat" for its cone shape). Picnicking. The park is listed in the National Register of Historical Places because of its great importance in the life of the native Hawaiian people.


Lanikai Beach

Located just South of Kailua Beach, this strip of narrow beach offers the most spectacular sunrise anywhere on the Island of Oahu


Makapu’u Beach Park

Located across from the entrance of Sea Life Park.


MALAEKAHANA STATE RECREATION AREA
Kamehameha Highway, Kahuku
(Windward Oahu)

Superb, wooded park and white sand beach. Camping, beach cabins, picnicking. Moku Auia (Goat Island) offshore contains an Eden-like beach (reachable by wading at low tide when the sea is calm) and a state bird sanctuary (off limits to public). Note: Wading to Moku Auia can be dangerous (strong currents exist when the tides change or the surf is high; ocean floor has sharp coral - be sure to protect your feet.)

One of the most popular bodysurfing beaches on Oahu. Picnicking.


WAIMANALO BAY RECREATION AREA

(Windward Oahu)

Beautiful, secluded, white sand beach at the edge of an ironwood forest. Safe swimming and great boogie boarding and body surfing. Camping, picnicking.
