A Waikiki restaurant enjoyed a visit
this week from professional consumer Adam Richman, host of
"Man v. Food." Crew for the Travel Channel series arrived at
Mac 24-7 in the Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio Hotel around noon
on Monday, according to Morena Herrera, the hotel's director
of restaurants. For his challenge, he
selected the blueberry pancakes, says Herrera, who confirms
that Richman followed the rules while attempting to ingest
Mac's famous flapjacks, which run a whopping 14 inches in
diameter and contain four pounds of flour. Richman sat for 90
minutes and was not allowed to get up for anything (not even a
trip to the restroom). "Only four people
have eaten an entire plate of pancakes by themselves and lived
to tell about it," says Herrera.
Four! No word yet on whether Richman will
get his name added to that short list. We'll find out when the
show airs in early September. Plenty of
local residents were on hand to cheer for Richman as he
stuffed himself. After a post-meal break, he stayed until
about midnight answering questions and taking pictures with
fans, several of whom are likely to get some air time.
"He's really great," says Herrera. "Very personable."
It all started about a year ago when someone on the
restaurant's staff watched the show, then sent an e-mail
inviting Richman and the producers to Hawaii. Follow-up
questions didn't arrive for months, but obviously the "Man v.
Food" folks liked the idea. Watch for special events at Mac
24-7 when The Travel Channel announces the actual air date ...
